Supply/demand = price

We have a long time for price discovery (Jan. USDA report)

So in the mean time trading ranges. Seem more like early Holiday trading imho.

Lock in basis if its good to ya. No carry in the corn market, someone wants corn.

Beans have a carry and I would use it to sell July futures and store beans. Still have a long ways to go with SA crops.

Be Safe with Harvest and it's going to be a long harvest.

Some highlights from U.S. Crop Progress - Oct. 27. Winter #wheat planting is ahead of schedule and the crop is rated 56% good/exc.

#Harvest19 for #corn and #soybeans lag.

The sunseed harvest is also critically behind in the Dakotas.

As of Sunday, U.S. #corn was 41% harvested, up from 30% a week earlier but well behind the 5yr average of 61%. The progress is equivalent with 2008 and well ahead of 2009 (21% - record slow). #harvest19

#Soybeans were 62% harvested on Oct. 27, up from 46% a week earlier but behind the 5yr average of 78%. Last year (69%) was the third slowest since at least 2008. 2009 was much slower at 46%. #harvest19

A lot of crops still in the fields in WC Illinois. Woke up to snow covered ground this morning. VERY unusual for snow this early. Bigger system coming Wed/Thurs.

Thanks bowyer,

Doesn't look like the snow will be too heavy there.

If current weather conditions persist, rain/snow, low temps, I suspect harvest progress will be minimal for this week.

Slow harvest, yield declines YTY, high moisture, and apparent demand has 'forced' me to buy a weekly bean call (perhaps a day early).

My neighbors applaud me and my tenant for taking corn PP

Beans came in 50+/_.  Very respectful for June 11 plant.  61 in 2018  Location=near I80/Rt 71 LaSalle County, Il

The weather is not that bullish for grains.

An inch of precip for just the eastern half of the Cornbelt, then mostly dry for 2 weeks is not bullish:

Did I read that correctly

Corn condition  "improved" from last week

My corn deteriorates from now on including last week

Wind blows stalks down, snow on any fall harvest grain crop is never good, some varieties drop ears

They did not say field conditions improved as if soil dried out or snow disappeared

What am I missing????

Given the amount of crop left to harvest, one wonders if the weather will hold

In our location COC no-till won't work. We had a few die hards who gave it a valiant effort, but finally do some tillage

I even see some spring tillage for beans, but I am not convinced spring tillage gains anything

We are COC and fall tillage has to happen, or the corn stover is too hard to manage. Spring tillage only for COC results in a yield hit, every time. Some thing about surrounding vegetation dead or alive makes the young corn plant sense competition, and thus seems to want to protect itself with a smaller cob. I know it's complicated.

I don't know how much of the corn belt is COC or does fall tillage but I would expect some problems with next yrs crop

Especially where the fields are rutted up so badly. or freeze up comes before fall tillage is complete

I have had the soil freeze solid on Nov 4 but it seems we get a longer fall season, most yrs.

Fall tillage was my job for today

Look at IA

They have a bumper crop but look at how much is harvested. Hardly anything

Over 1/2 of that state could be under snow in two weeks, or continuous rain

I know it is early but next spring soil conditions  might be something to consider for next yr crop

Thanks Wayne,

The forecast I just showed you is for almost no precip in IA the next 2 weeks.

"I know it is early but next spring soil conditions  might be something to consider for next yr crop."

Yep, around 5 months early.  I do think that next year the market will be more sensitive/react more strongly to heavy rain forecasts in the Spring because of the historic planting delays and PP acres this past Spring.

A lot areas in Brazil have struggled in recent weeks to see sufficient rain for corn and soybean planting. Rio Grande do Sul has NOT been one of those areas...

So much for a weather forcast

1" forcast for eastern corn belt

Well:

We have just surpassed 2" and still raining

Checking and re-checking soil analysis, machinery , even resting our bodies, anything, so no delays if the weather gives us a decent chance. A sad sight to see machinery parked in the shed, with 50% of our corn still in the field, Just started fall fert. lime and tillage and still raining.

Grrr   but some have it much worse

I wish USDA would explain to me how corn conditions can improve this late in the season

Nobody has that one figggered out

Must be the basis people figgered it out

Can't be done so basis is doing the heavy lifting, as that basis map clearly showed us.

Might be IA has some good weather coming

But:

There is a good reason why so much corn is still out in the field

Especially for northern IA with a threat of snow at any time, in normal situations

They did not leave 50% in the field because they did not want to go get it

7 day forcast

Eastern cornbelt gets 1" and western belt gets zip or almost zip

Well: As I said

We are at 2"in the eastern corn belt

And just from a bit of reading

Seems the western Ill guys are sitting under snow

So much for a 7 day weather forcast

But I know forcasting weather is like trying to anticipate my wife happy and not so happy days

When the HST tax has to be paid today just stay a long way away from her, as in "don't bother me"

I didn't help very much last nite. She was in one of these has to be done today, thing. So I decided to get supper cooking. I don't do the farm boks but I am learning to do some of the simpler cooking tasks which seems to make life a bit better in our house

So I am sawing away on a squash and I thought to myself. I should stop and point the knife away from myself

To late: I sawed right on thru and into my thumb. A trip to emergency and some medical attention, to stop it bleeding. They used some kind of crazy glue, bandages and a splint so I would not bend my thumb and open the wound, as it was a deep cut. I keep the knives sharp. So that made supper a bit later and now today is really a "don't bother me kind of day" in our house

At least all I was asked for payment was my health card and no charge for doctor, nurse, and special room to fix me up

What would the emergency room cost be in your country, If I cut my self ??? and went to emergency. Some probably would not go,  but this cut could very well have gotten infected and then much worse, so I was told. Even got a tetnus shot.
