1966 – The Arno RiverfloodsFlorence, Italy, to a maximum depth of 6.7 m (22 ft), leaving thousands homeless and destroying millions of masterpieces of art and rare books. Also Venice was submerged on the same day at its record all-time acqua alta of 194 cm (76 in).

A similar flood on the Arno River occurred  in 1333.

1868 -  my church, St. Johns in Daylight IN is founded. We celebrate our 150th anniversary tomorrow!

The records and documents related to St. John's first church here in Southwest Indiana,  were written in German for the first decade as German immigrants made up almost the entire congregation.

The first actual Catholic church in the vicinity was St. Patricks, just a mile away. However, the Germans decided to build their own church vs going to the one founded by the Irish several years earlier.
