There are hog people very afraid of ASF

But

How could it enter the country. Near as I know it is spread by living animal contact

In fact infected ASF pork is supposed to be safe to consume

So: One has to hope there are very strict controls of live animals enering the country

I know you have to have a veterinary certificate to move animals across the border

I am also sure breeding stock has to be in quarantine for a number of days/ weeks [I dunno how long]

As for semen I don't know

On the other hand who would want Asian breeding stock

I have heard of trying to cross breed Chinese sows/boars with NA stock as the Chinese have a breed that farrows huge numbers of piglets

I have no idea if the program was successful

Myself I would hope the hog producers strongly encourage or even stop all live hogs and semen from entering the country

It only takes one animal to wreck havoc with our hog numbers

A chance that is way to high to mess around with

But all it would take for somebody to smuggle that cute little piglet into the country and customs might miss it and that could be an infected animal

So many ways even with strict controls
