1851 – The largest Australian bushfires in a populous region in recorded history take place in the state of Victoria.


1978 – The Blizzard of 1978, one of the worst Nor'easters in New England history, hit the region, with sustained winds of 65 mph and snowfall of four inches an hour.


1988Michael Jordan makes his signature slam dunk from the free throw line inspiring Air Jordan and the Jumpman logo.

Victoria has a long history of damaging bushfires. More significant bushfires and their locations are featured here

                            1851: 6 February, Black Thursday                    

                        

Fires covered a quarter of what is now Victoria (about five million hectares). Areas affected included Portland, Plenty Ranges, Westernport, the Wimmera and Dandenong districts.

Around 12 lives, one million sheep and thousands of cattle were lost.
