U.S. #corn was 88% planted as of Sunday, = to the 2014-2018 avg.

 #Soybeans 65%, ahead of normal.

USDA unexpectedly published corn conditions - 70% good/excellent.

For reference, that is so-so. Middle of the road compared w/ recent years. Winter #wheat conditions jumped 2 pts.

metmike: This shows that the first crop rating can be pretty bad and the crop can still be a record. Our first corn crop rating of 70% nationally was not great but still ok.

This is an old graphic, but these are the initial #corn conditions for Illinois, which were extremely low (42%) in 2017. But the crop went on to a record yield of 201 bpa that year (bested by 210 in 2018). Completing the chart.... 5/24/20 55% 6/9/19 47% 5/27/18 83%

This is what U.S. #corn at 70% good/excellent looks like against initial conditions from prior years. Keep in mind the dates vary 3-4 weeks based on when they were released in each year. The current record yield of 176.6 bu/acre was set in 2017 when conditions started at 65%.

70% of U.S. #corn was rated in good or excellent condition as of Sunday. Here is the breakdown by state. Keep in mind that conditions are only given for the portion of crops that have emerged. National emergence was 64% on Sunday.
