President Trump, Melania Trump test positive for COVID-19

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/519282-president-trump-melania-trump-test-positive-for-covid-19

"The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence," presidential physician Sean Conley said in a memo released by the White House.

“The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions. Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments," Conley added

You can tell the moment that this news hit just before midnight central time because all the markets plunged at exactly the same time.

The Dow futures dropped around 400 points in less than 15 minutes.

"Former CNN host Piers Morgan on Friday blasted people on social media for sharing thoughts of “gleeful joy” after President Trump's announcement overnight on Thursday that he and first lady Melania Trump have contracted the coronavirus.

"Interesting to see those who’ve spent the last few years screaming that Trump’s an uncaring, heartless empathy-devoid b*stard now spewing their gleeful joy that he & his wife have a deadly virus," Morgan wrote to his more than 7.6 million followers. "They’re no better than the man they loathe."

Pence, second lady test negative for coronavirus after Trump's positive result

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/519294-pence-second-lady-test-negative-for-coronavirus-after-trumps-positive?userid=565140

"Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence on Friday tested negative for the coronavirus just hours after President Trump announced he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for the virus.

“As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19. Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery,” Pence spokesman Devin O’Malley tweeted Friday morning.

Trump said early Friday morning that he and the first lady had tested positive for the virus and would begin quarantining “immediately.” Their positive tests came after one of Trump’s closest aides, Hope Hicks, also tested positive for the virus.

White House physician Sean Conley said in a memo that the president and first lady “are both well at this time” and that the White House medical team will maintain “vigilant watch” over them.

Pence, who is scheduled to travel to Salt Lake City to the vice presidential debate next Wednesday, is frequently in contact with Trump but was not with him on trips to Cleveland and Minnesota this week where Hicks was also present.

It is unclear if he plans to self-isolate as a precautionary measure, or if the president’s positive case may impact his plans to travel to the debate. He is likely to be regularly tested in the coming days, as has been the regular procedure at the White House for months."

Trump To Stay At Walter Reed Hospital Following Positive Coronavirus Test

https://www.npr.org/2020/10/02/919697784/trump-makes-unannounced-visit-to-walter-reed-following-coronavirus-diagnosis

"The White House also provided a brief update on Trump's treatment Friday. Dr. Sean Conley, the president's physician, says that President Trump received an experimental drug made by Regeneron, which contains two antibodies against the coronavirus.

The medicine is currently in clinical trials and isn't approved by the Food and Drug and Administration. How the president's medical team got the medicine wasn't disclosed in the statement.

In response to NPR's query, Regeneron declined to comment specifically, citing patient confidentiality. But Regeneron said it can make the drug available outside a clinical trial through  a "compassionate use program," subject to the OK of a review committee.

The drug, called REGN-COV2, is given as a single dose by injection (an infusion). The president received the high dose being tested by the company – 8 grams.

Because the drug contains two antibodies it's sometimes called an antibody cocktail. It's OK to describe it that way.

The company released preliminary results this week from a test of patients treated outside hospitals. The study found that in COVID-19 patients whose bodies hadn't produced their own antibodies against the coronavirus, the medicine improved symptoms and lowered the amount of virus over time compared with a placebo.

The president is also taking some supplements – zinc, vitamin D and melatonin. He's taking a heartburn drug – famotidine (brand name Pepcid) – and a daily aspirin. "

CNN not wasting any time to use this for their politics.

Trump's diagnosis throws election into chaos, threatens governing crisis

https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/02/politics/donald-trump-positive-coronavirus/index.html

"Most immediately there is concern for the health of Trump himself, who as an overweight 74-year-old is at an elevated risk of complications from the virus"

metmike: Donald Trump is not your typical 74 year old. He has no serious underlying health conditions and the greatest correlation between those that die and overweight is with OBESE patients and much of the correlation exists because obesity often  causes all the underlying health issues that make a person vulnerable......diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and so on.

Almost no obese people are healthy.

He will be getting some great meds.

Mike,

Hopefully he'll be ok, but Trump is borderline obese at 6'3" and 240 lbs (per his doc).  This says his BMI is right at 30:

https://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/adult_bmi/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.html

That would make him borderline obese. Whereas that doesn't necessarily mean it will ever get bad (hopefully not), especially since it is only borderline, it does mean he has a higher risk than if he were a good bit lighter. So, CNN is not out of line here imo.

The Probable Outcomes of Trump’s Diagnosis

Here’s what is currently known about Trump’s health, and what it means for everyone else.

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/10/donald-trumps-covid-19-clinical-probabilities/616584/

"Death is not the most likely outcome, but it is far from unlikely. Based on age and sex alone, Trump is at high or very high risk for severe disease. Eight percent of COVID-19 patients ages 65 to 74 die from the disease. Those 75 to 84 are at far higher risk: 18 percent die. And men are significantly more likely to die of COVID-19 than women. Obesity is also predictive of a severe course. Compared with people in the “normal” BMI range, obese patients are 74 percent more likely to be admitted to an ICU and 48 percent more likely to die."

metmike: The problem with their alarming statistics is they don't recognize the realities of the situation.

A huge reason that people in this age bracket die is because that underlying serious health issues drastically increase at this age.

If you take away the diabetes, and cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure and respiratory diseases for instance, in these older people, the death rate plunges.

Healthy people at 74 years old have a MUCH better outcome vs those with underlying health issues..........which is a heck of a lot of people at 74.

If Trump has a serious underlying health issue, he has given the worlds most amazing performance at disguising it.

A young healthy, energetic person would not be able to keep up with him.

Conspicuous by it's absence is any mention of his being treated with hydoxychloroquine. Seems now that it comes down to saving #1, he may have become a believer in the reputable docs, studies and trials that say it doesn't work.

Thanks Larry.

I understand CNN and many others using strictly his age and strictly his weight, then going by statististics like an actuary might in determining his risk of dying from COVID based on those 2 high risk factors.

If they were trying to predict outcomes of events using just this general information and not considering more important information relating specifically to each individual event or person, we could whoop them much of the time by applying specific key information to event predictions that they are not dialing in.

The reason they are high risk is because people that age and people of that weight have a much higher incidence of underlying health issues.....the biggest factor in elevated death rates. Donald trump is not one of them.

We might  be more concerned if he was younger and not overweight but had heart disease or diabetes or a compromised immune system.

Hi pj,

If you remember, trump did take that drug earlier this Summer as a preventative. Maybe he should have stayed on it (-:

Actually, they have developed several very  promising anti viral drugs since then that are showing great effectiveness based on early results and his doctors decided to go with these drugs, one of them is still considered experimental.

If this had been 4 months ago, the treatment would be different since this newest drug was not out yet and in fact he was on HCQ back then  for awhile.

Which is not for everyone and does no good for lots of people.

He apparently is not suffering from severe inflammation in the lungs or an immune system going bonkers that needs to be modulated. I would guess that they will give him a high dose of steroids and something else if that happens as well as put him on oxygen.

Trump just got a dose of Regeneron’s unapproved antibody drug for covid

At 74 and overweight, the president is at higher risk for serious illness.

https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/10/02/1009278/what-drug-treatments-will-president-trump-get/

"In a statement released Friday, the White House said Trump had received “a single 8-gram dose” of the biotech treatment, which belongs to a promising new class of antiviral drugs.

The White House said the president had received an IV infusion of a cocktail of antibodies manufactured by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, of Tarrytown, New York.  That treatment is essentially a way to mimic a powerful immune response in order to ward off a serious case of covid-19."

"Because he is overweight and 74 years old, the president is at higher than average risk for developing a serious case of the disease. And the chance of death for someone like him is not small—it's at least 5%, about 100 times as great for him as for someone under 30."

metmike: NOT true. The chance of death is 100 times greater for the AVERAGE overweight 74 year old, with a pre existing health condition....which to our knowledge, is NOT Donald Trump.

"For one thing, they had to assess medical evidence that’s been consistently clouded by the White House itself and treat a patient who has shown interest in hokum treatments like bleach,"

metmike: This is a  lie. We had some fun with that one here:

"The antibodies Regeneron makes are similar to those developed by people who catch the virus and survive it. Given in a concentrated dose administered through an intravenous drip, the manufactured antibodies are designed to grab hold of the viral particles and neutralize them.

The expectation for such treatments is that if given early to patients like Trump, they might stop the disease from ever progressing to its most serious stage of pneumonia and death.

Just this week, Regeneron said a study of nearly 300 outpatients showed that the antibody treatment cut down on the amount of virus in patients’ bodies. There were also hints that those who got the drug were less likely to end up in a doctor’s office, making it one of the most exciting new candidate treatments. (A similar antibody is being made and tested by Eli Lilly.)

When contacted by MIT Technology Review early on Friday, Regeneron was not willing to say whether the White House had already asked for doses of its antibody, REGN-COV2. “As a matter of policy, we don’t identify individuals without their consent who have or have not submitted a request,” spokesperson Alexandra Bowie said in an email.

Although Regeneron’s drug is not approved, many companies run “compassionate use” programs that can allow people who are not in their trials to get the treatment in special cases, and that’s apparently exactly what Trump qualified for.

“There is limited product available for compassionate-use requests that are approved under certain exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis,” Bowie said. The US Food and Drug Administration would have had to rapidly sign off on Trump’s treatment request too.

Regeneron declined to explain the series of events that led to Trump’s treatment, but a presidential request would not have been easy to turn down. Trump also appears to have a warm relationship with the New York company’s billionaire CEO and cofounder, Leonard Schleifer, who back in March was among a select group of executives brought to the White House for a meeting about how biotech might solve the crisis with drugs."

On the internet, many people worry about his safety at Walter Reed. He better know who is giving him his daily medication, and where this medication is coming from. it would be too easy for one of his enemies to do something horrible and then blame it on Covid19

Trump mounts bizarre and misleading White House return despite warnings

https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/06/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-white-house-biden/index.html

"His behavior alarmed public health experts.

"It is inexplainable that the President of the United States, who is actively shedding virus in millions of particles, would walk into that building with an enormous number of staff, unmasked," said Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor at George Washington University School of Medicine.

"It is really hard to understand how no one told him not to do that. There doesn't seem to be anyone in charge of his care other than the President of the United States, other than the patient," Reiner told CNN's Erin Burnett."

metmike: They can't possibly know if he's shedding millions of virus particles or if he's shedding any at all right now.

Ironically, when he went into the hospital late last week, the MSM was painting a potentially bleak picture for Trump. Telling us that his risk of dying was 100 times greater because of his age and being overweight. Just scroll up in this thread to see that and my comments then. This was bs.

They wanted us to assume his condition must be pretty bad for him to go to this facility Well, apparently his condition is not that bad, so why does he need to stay there?

The MSM questioned how transparent the president was being about his serious condition late last week and this weekend, constantly implying that its really much worse than he/they are telling us and they are hiding it from us, like they always do with the truth about bad things.

They hate him returning to the White House, not because he's shedding virus particles. That has nothing to do with it. They are upset that he recovered so quickly(which is sad in itself that they would not celebrate this and instead be upset by it and busted all their fake news from just a few days ago.

That's not to say that he's fully recovered or that an average person would have had the same results and should be allowed back to work so quickly.  That is not the case.

But, like I said, he is not an average 74 year old man and had access to some experimental drugs that show great promise(which everybody is going to want now, after they get the virus).

If he feels this good and is social distancing from others and has the best doctors on the planet at his side, why the heck is the MSM bashing him from wanting to go back to work for the American people?

Trump is saying some crazy, misleading things here about the virus, however that I strongly disagree with. He could have used this event in a powerful way to help himself and to guide others but he is going to the other extreme opposite and wrong position of the MSM and dems regarding COVID.

He is probably pumped up, after listening to the MSM tell everybody for days that he is at high risk of dying and will be out of commission for weeks and might not make the next debate. They said this over and over last week.

Now, he wants to prove this was all fake news.

He is actually doing that................about his unique case. However, this does not apply to everybody.

The completely honest position lies in between Trump and the MSM but their vicious battle and hatred for each other, compels them to always vehemently disagree with anything the other one says and to respond with the extreme opposite.

If the MSM, last week had said "The chance of President Trump dying from COVID, considering his amazing energy and health for a man his age, is minuscule and he could be back to work as early as next week"  then Trump would not be proving anything right now.........he would be confirming what they said.

But they said the complete opposite, didn't they.

So he is going out of his way right now to prove that they were wrong.........and they can't stand it.

President Trump recovering from COVID unexpectedly fast = bad news.

What a world we live in.

Trump was treated with dexamethasone. Here’s what we know about its risks and side effects.

"President Trump’s team of physicians revealed Sunday that he was being treated with dexamethasone, and health experts immediately voiced concern. The powerful steroid has shown promise for treating patients with severe covid-19 who are getting supplemental oxygen, as Trump was, but may cause harm for those with minor infections.

The use of dexamethasone, experts say, contrasts with White House physician Sean Conley’s rosy assessments of Trump’s battle with the virus. Typically used to treat inflammation, dexamethasone was credited with improving the survival for critically ill coronavirus patients in a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine."

metmike: The Washington Post is very full of crap. I've been taking a steroid very similar to this for 26 years for an autoimmune disorder and am doing great.

They have no idea what they are talking about.

Taking this steroid for several days has minimal risks and side effects. Taking it for years on the other hand can have side affects/risks.

One of those side affects that I have experienced is...........LIVING!

Without the steroids, I would have been dead 2 decades ago!

Back on Campaign Trail, Trump Says He Feels 'Powerful' After COVID Recovery

Somehow, they are still managing to keep the cover up going of the MASS GATHERINGS in the form of millions of protestors as not having contributed greatly to the big increase in COVID this Summer.

++++++++++++++

On Sunday, driving back from Detroit, I was listening to NPR(actually, I listened to them every day for over a week up there-bashing Trump round the clock like CNN).

They had an expert from the state of WI on discussing the incredible increase in the new number of cases and hospitalizations in his state during the 2nd half of September and early October.

He said, about contact tracing "the scary thing about this outbreak is that we have no idea where over half those infected got COVID from"

But they are not allowed to ask those testing positive if they had been to a protest because it would violate their rights.

The world has gone nuts!

In the age of massive information available to everyone, people are losing their ability to analyze the information themselves to understand situations and solve problems.  Instead, they let other people interpret the data and tell them what they should know.

So the gatekeepers in the MSM, politics and other places tell us what they want us to know.
