Ransomware attacks

I have learned various hospitals and schools have been rendered useless due to hackers [unconfirmed but seems to be true]

Hackers demand payment to restore service [also unconfirmed as is the rest of the post] But at the end we need clarification so parents feel secure registering with vital information

Obviously this is becoming more wide spread, with some actually paying money

Why can't our intelligence agencies either assure us

1: Services have not been attacked successfully

2: If successful?? Do we not have the ability to find these hackers and punish them

3: Has anybody paid a ransom for domestic service. I realize foreign actors may require such actions that would reveal methods and sources. Is domestic hackers in the same sources and methods. There are rumors of money being paid. This needs to stop if true. Why do we pay these agencies large sums if they can't/won't protect domestic service such as zoom school systems

4: Our numerous agencies need to explain to the  citizens exactly what is happening. If nothing then say so

Baltimore, Maryland has suspended services for student learning. Why???

Wayne,

You often bring up some great new topics here and this is another one of them.

I agree that we all should know more about this.

Would appreciate comments from others and I will try to do some research/learning about it.
