GA: now illegal to provide water or food to those in line to vote

Do any cons here object to the insanity that providing water or food to those waiting in line to vote is now a crime in GA?

The Trump faction of the GOP is dead to me.

What I don't understand is why you have such long line ups and waiting tines to vote

No wonder such a small % of the population even make an effort to stand in line.

I was hoping someone would bring this up...  :-)

In realilty,  giving food and water to people waiting in lines has been illegal in Ga and many other places for quite some time.  This bill merely has language that clarifies it. But the liberal media , like the dem party, is very much opposed to things that make voter fraud difficult so they combed thru the bill,  bypassing things like extended early voting, and came up with this nugget, and of course, as always, their willing subjects jump right on board the "Crisis du jour" express.

The practice is called "line warming" and is a form of campaigning, which is also banned within 150 ft of any polling place, YES,  EVEN BY DEMOCRATS!!

Even more ironic...     I've never had to wait to vote, and I've always voted on election day.  But, at least up until now,  my voting disctrict has been solid red. (Voting is run/managed at the county level).  The lines seem to always occur in the democrat managed districts.   So perhaps, instead of getting their panties in a wad over existing law,  they should make an effort to actually effectively manage the job of running voting booths.  But, of course, history shows us that is simply not what democrats do.

Georgia HB 531 has a section that prohibits “any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector.” Such giveaways will be banned within 150 feet of a building where people are voting, within any polling place or within 25 feet of any voter standing in line.

Tim just preformed he impossible. He used "effectively manage" and ""democrats in the same sentence.

As far as voting rules and dems go WX I would be real careful when opening that can of worms. There could be volumes written here about recent elections and the various ways dems seem to never follow the rules.

What hapened here was that there was OUTRAGE over the idea that election fraud was going to be very difficult.

So they read through the bill and looked for something to stoke the OUTRAGE that we should all feel over the obvious VOTER SUPPRESSION.

Extended early voting?  Nahhh.  No ones gonna be outraged over that.

Identification  requirements?  Well.  Maybe.  But that's kind of a hard sell.

Signature verification?   No one will buy that as outrageous.

Oh WAIT!!!   Here's some words that exclude campaigning within 150 ft of polling places,  which is pretty much accepted by most,  but let's leave out the part about money and gifts and just mention the part ABOUT FOOD AND WATER.    If that's all we talk about,  I  bet we can get at least some people OUTRAGED!!!

Does anyone else see how obvious this is?   Just what this media blitz is all about?   Selective reporting and gross misrepresentation.  What would be the possible motivation for this gross misinformation campaign?

Anyone?  Anyone?  Ferris?   Ferris Bueller?

The way this has been twisted to be racist is absurd and one of the reasons that some people have a hard time believing when REAL racism occurs,  because for the other side, fake racism and REAL racism sound pretty similar at times.

So are we to believe that many black people, only  come out to vote for the free water and food or other stuff?

White people bring their own food and water or don't care?

I don't get the connection to this and racism?

Oh, maybe its because there are longer lines in the urban areas, where more black people live and so there are more opportunities to give those people food and water.

So the problem is THE LONG LINES...............not that people are not getting food and water while they wait. If the urban areas consistently have long lines, fix the REAL problem.

What other place or event that you go to that has long lines, has people there to give out free food and water and other goodies to the people in the lines?

The law, which has always been there and apparently not enforced is to prevent people from either party from giving free stuff to people waiting in line, in order to try to influence their vote.

It doesn't say no food or water to BLACK people, it's to ALL people and its to prevent others from trying to coax voters with bribes.

Unless..........black people need more food and water than white people (-:

Giving free food to voters allowed in practice despite legal gray area

"In this high-stakes election season, the long-standing practice of volunteers handing out snacks, drinks and even pizza to voters waiting in long lines has come under increased scrutiny.

The debate over giving food to voters was elevated when an out-of-state donor attempted to order pizzas for voters waiting in line in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett’s Board of Elections refused the offer, maintaining that giving voters anything of value, pizza included, was a violation of federal law. Organizations that encourage voting and participate in such “line warming” activities have disputed Gwinnett’s response to the attempted donation.

In legal terms, the practice falls in the cracks. In practical terms, volunteers are rarely, if ever, sent away from polling places by election authorities."

Why would a wealthy out of state person order pizza's for voters waiting in line in GA?

TO INFLUENCE THEIR VOTE!

Georgia law makes it a crime to give food, water to people waiting to vote

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/545120-georgia-law-makes-it-a-crime-to-give-water-to-people-waiting-to-vote

One of the most notable parts of the new Georgia voting law signed by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) on Thursday is that it would make it illegal for people to provide food or water to voters as they wait in lines to cast their ballots.

The new law includes giving food and water in a section on electioneering that places new restrictions on the practice. It compares food and drink to gifts that might be given to a voter.

The provision has repeatedly been highlighted by critics of the sweeping legislation, which some have said might have left Georgia in former President Trump's column if it had been the state's law in November.

President Biden in a statement issued by the White House on Friday called the law "Jim Crow in the 21st century."

"If you want any indication that it has nothing to do with fairness, nothing to do with decency, they passed a law saying you can't provide water to people standing in line while they're waiting to vote?” Biden told reporters later, singling out that provision.

“You don't need anything else to know that this is nothing but punitive, designed to keep people from voting. You can't provide water for people about to vote. Give me a break,” he said.

The law, SB 202, states that "[n]o person shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method, nor shall any person distribute or display any campaign material, nor shall any person give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector ... on any day in which ballots are being cast."

GOP lawmakers who have supported the measure say the provision on food and water was included in an effort to prevent the solicitation of votes and electioneering, or influencing voters.

The law states that poll workers under the law could still bring water from a fountain, or bottles of water, to people in line."

metmike: When people, especially our president call this racism, it cheapens that word and makes it much HARDER to address REAL racism when it happens.

Tim and MM have hit the important points of this one law that is broken thousands of times at the polls. This is the tip of the ice berg. All in the name of racism. If a few people are bribed to vote a certain way who cares and who is held accountable? Then we skip right to falsely signing voter registrations. Then we go quickly to voting several times and stealing some others vote. Jump right across to blocking poll workers from even witnessing the vote. Then you might as well harvest votes while you are at it, right? Then whats it matter if a few million illegals decide to vote? Pretty soon you have exactly what the last few national election have looked like......almost exclusively thanks to libs , their victims, and fake calls of racism. And yet there is wonder when the MSM claims over and we have had the most secure election in history.

Actually, mcfarm, the other side exaggerates this element too.....about bribes getting people to vote the dem side.   It accounts for a minuscule amount of voter fraud.

We need laws to make it more difficult but in reality, the facts show it to be very tiny.

Most poll workers, though leaning left are very honest, law abiding people volunteering their time to help make democracy and elections work.

They deserve to be recognized in a positive way and not crapped on/accused of being fraudsters trying to steal the election for their person.

This is what we did to them in 6 states after the 2020 election. Thousands that were doing it because they are patriotic Americans that believe in our democracy.

and just how many bad apples spoil the bunch MM? our election have become such a mess we cannot just throw our hands up and say well "the poll workers meant well" And I do not believe stating the various examples of wrong doing the last few years is  "crapping" on anyone. I am rural enough and naïve enough to hope an honest poll worker would immediately point out wrong doing, not tape the windows shut so no one can even see what is going on deep inside this mess.

You are evidence of the other side being fed the widespread, systemic fraud that does not exist.

I love you mcfarm but it doesn't matter how many times I prove to you and a few others here, using rock sold facts and evidence, which is always what I base my posts on......you will believe something different that what I show.

I'm very grateful that MarketForum offers the opportunity to go back to show that evidence because human memories only hold on to what the human wants to believe.

And since your side likes to mis-characterize somebody like me as somebody that just doesn't look for evidence, I threw in a couple of threads that proves that wrong too.

I investigated every single claim that you and everybody else brought up here since the 2020 election, with an initial assumption that it MIGHT be right.

This is getting pretty insane!

Calls for economic boycott grow after Georgia adopts voter restrictions

"I think all things should be considered on the table," said LaTosha Brown, cofounder of the group Black Voters Matter.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/calls-economic-boycott-grow-after-georgia-adopts-voter-restrictions-n1262241

"On Friday, Biden called the restrictions, which make it illegal to provide food or water to people waiting in line to vote, the "outrageous" return of racist Jim Crow laws."

metmike: Again, it does not make it illegal to provide food or water to only BLACK voters. This is total BS by Biden.

"Not everyone thinks a boycott is the answer. Bernice King, CEO of Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, said such action could hurt some of the very voters it seeks to help.

"Please stop the #BoycottGeorgia talk," she tweeted Thursday. "That would hurt middle class workers and people grappling with poverty. And it would increase the harm of both racism and classism."

In 2019, multiple film production companies boycotted the state over its ban on abortions in cases where a fetal heartbeat could be detected."

metmike: Look no further than an issue like this to find your main sources for divisiveness in our country right now.

We are having a real election confidence crisis for many tens of millions of republicans that are convinced there was widespread fraud, enough for Biden to steal the election in 2020.

How do you deal with that REAL crisis to give those people more confidence in future elections?

By applying standards that make fraud more difficult. Standards with rules that are the same, regardless of the color of your skin.

But what if it might be harder for some poor black people to vote in order to meet the exact same standards that poor while people are being held to?

I get this. It probably does make it harder, just as its harder for poor black people to get educations and harder for them to meet college entrance exam standards.

So should we just lower college entry standards and let anyone who wants to go get in to eliminate disadvantaged blacks?

Or maybe, when enforcing laws for theft or other crimes. Poor blacks, raised in bad neighborhoods, many with fatherless families were not taught the same ethics as whites, so we should adjust the laws to make it fair.  Blacks commit a 6 times higher rate of violent crime than whites. Maybe it's because we are making it too hard for them to follow laws?

No, that's not it. We should address the real problem and work on helping the youth in poor black communities get an education and then obtain good jobs. That how you fix it.

How about this novel idea regarding the voter ID laws..........make it easier for people to get voter ID's (there are countless, easy ways to do that) and the problemo is completely fixed and we eliminate the perception of voter fraud!!!!!

Why aren't them dems and MSM suggesting that solution?

Because then, they couldn't accuse the other side of being racists!!!

This is the complete opposite of trying to come together.

I have spoken out loudly hundreds of times against racism when I've witnessed it in my lifetime. This is not racism. Behavior like this cheapens the words racism and racists.

When those crying racism act like this, you can't tell when its real racism or fake racism because both look exactly the same from the narratives that they spin up.

"BTW: Liberals  say that requiring an ID for voting is unconstitutional and discriminating.  The ironic part of this is that most unions are Democratic supporters and they require an ID for all union voting, but they are against requiring an ID to vote in local, state and federal elections.

If requiring an ID to vote is discriminatory and unconstitutional, then why is it legal to require an ID for all of these other things in life?"

Controversial Georgia Law Requires Poll Workers To Check Voters For A Pulse

https://babylonbee.com/news/controversial-georgia-law-requires-poll-workers-to-check-voters-for-a-pulse

ATLANTA, GA—Republican Governor Brian Kemp has signed into law sweeping overhauls to Georgia’s election law, including a provision requiring poll workers to check for a pulse before allowing voters to cast a ballot.

Voting rights advocates decried the controversial bill crafted by the Peach State’s Republicans as an act intended to suppress turnout of the state’s many dead Democratic voters, thereby ensuring Republican victories for local, state, and federal races.

“This is just unconscionable and based entirely on lies from the Trump 2020 campaign that somehow voters with a pulse are more valid,” read a joint statement from Georgia-based corporations. “No-pulse voters have always had a say in how their state is run and we think that shouldn’t be changed just to help Republicans win every time. We are considering a boycott until this injustice is corrected.”

“This is discrimination of the highest order,” declared Stacey Abrams from the Office of Rightful Governor Of Georgia. “This is disenfranchisement. It’s Jim Crow 2.0. A heartbeat has never been the definition of a registered voter. This bill is voter suppression. We need to count every vote. It’s just that plain and simple.”

Governor Kemp defended the bill when peppered with questions by the national corporate press that suddenly cared about Georgia by stating, “What? They’re dead. Dead people don’t get a vote!”

At publishing time, voting rights advocates released another statement reminding the nation that democracy dies in darkness.

From what I have read, most of the original complaints about this law have been about the denial of food paragraph.

However, they are now also attacking the requirement for IDs.

The IAVC strongly objects and calls this requirement racist, elitist and xenophobic.

The IAVC (Illegal Alien Voters Coalition) is gaining momentum in CA,

PS.: this is a made-up story

Georgia’s Black-Owned Businesses Strike Out Because of Biden’s Boycott

https://gop.com/georgias-black-owned-businesses-strike-out-because-of-bidens-boycott

“Thanks to Joe Biden’s lies about the Georgia bill that expands voting opportunities, Georgia is losing $100 million in tourism revenue. Biden is attacking businesses and workers with his boycott, not helping them.” -RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

“Democrats and the Biden/Harris administration view Georgia’s Black residents as collateral economic damage in their quest to score political points by intentionally spreading lies about the Georgia election reform law that actually expands voting while protecting the integrity of the vote for all residents in the state. The endorsement of this boycott will undoubtedly hurt Black Americans, and Biden and Democrats simply do not care.” -Paris Dennard, RNC National Spokesperson and Director of Black Media Affairs

    • Tudy Rodney of Rodney’s Jamaican Soul Food confirmed the real life negative impact the Biden boycott will have on entrepreneurs saying, “We’re trying to build back from a pandemic and something like this (Biden Boycott) is not good for business, Rodney’s will suffer ”

The Biden Administration does not care about how their policies will hurt they just want to spread the lie about the Georgia law

  • Biden White House Economic Advisor Chair, Cecilia Rouse reflected her boss’s callousness towards Black small business owners hurt by Biden’s Georgia boycott when she appeared on Face the Nation and said “there's undoubtedly going to be a cost, I think that was the point”
  • This is not the first time Joe Biden lied to Georgia voters, he promised $2,000 stimulus checks if they voted for Democrats running for Senate and did not get them.
    • Now, the Biden Administration is lying about the Georgia law saying that it does not allow food and water to be served to voters, when it does
    • In addition to green lighting this boycott that will hurt the Black community in Georgia he has proposed raising taxes, forcing a higher minimum wage, increasing regulations, reckless open borders, and supporting policies that will increase energy costs
    • The Washington Post fact checked the lies Joe Biden talked about this law giving him 4 Pinocchios
  • These corporate giants and politicians should read the law  and understand the myths vs. the facts before engaging in campaign meant to stoke up racial division at a time when we need to unify.

Bottom line: The things being said about the Georgia law from Joe Biden, Democrat leaders and many media outlets are false. The bill went through many revisions to make it better so that it would end up doing what it was meant to do, expand the vote by making it easier to legally vote and harder to cheat in order to restore election integrity. Too many Black Americans in Georgia fought, bled, marched and died for the right to vote to have that legacy be besmirched by a false narrative and fake woke rage that is now causing economic harm to the very people suffering disproportionately during this pandemic.

Coastal Progressives: Your Boycott of Georgia Is Hurting Our Cause | Opinion

https://www.newsweek.com/coastal-progressives-your-boycott-georgia-hurting-our-cause-opinion-1580737

"I hope people will heed his words, and the words of Stacey Abrams and Bernice King, and stop this talk of boycotting Georgia. Punishing red states for passing bad laws might seem like good politics from New York or Los Angeles, but it actually harms those of us living in and working to make these states fairer, more equitable places. Progressive Georgians need your money and your support now more than ever.

It seems the devil went down to Georgia on a road paved with good intentions. Help us show him out."

1. If the problem is that alot of (black) voters don't have picture ID's the solution is..............fix the system to make it easier for them to get picture ID's

2. If the problem is that alot of (black) voters have to wait in long lines waiting to vote. The solution isn't to make sure they get plenty of free food and water.  The solution is to fix the problem in the big cities with poorly run voting sites.............so they don't have to wait in long lines. Nobody should be stuck in a line long enough so that they get dehydrated or starve..........unless their is a huge problem. Fix the dang problem.  BTW, water is not banned either.

3. If you don't like a Georgia law passed by the representatives of Georgia, elected by the people living in Georgia and you live in California, what do you do?

Here's what you DON'T DO: You DON'T mess over the businesses in Georgia, including black businesses and those with black employees and F up the Georgia economy that affects all Georgian's, black and white people to teach them a lesson.  That would do 1,000 times more damage to the very blacks  that you are claiming to be helping compared to  the amount of(minuscule) damage  from requiring them..............and white people to get pictures ID's.

4. If you want a say in Georgia politics................move to Georgia. Become a resident and vote in their elections. The state of Georgia should not have to obey what residents or businesses or politicians of California or NY tell them they should do. Read the Constitution and apply it. Georgian's aren't telling California how to run their state.

5. Do you want to know what the best way to get people to not believe in racism and to not support efforts to stamp out real racism? Make up racism like this and act the exact same way that you do in confronting real racism and this fake racism. That way, you destroy your credibility and they never believe you...............sort of like the Boy who cried Wolf! Instead, it's the liberals that cry racist, racist, racist so often, when there is no racist that some people just stop believing them/don't trust them. When the real racism happens, they've already been turned off and tuned out.

6. If you want to convince people to join your cause, you don’t do it by trying to mess uthem over as badly as possible and attacking them.....especially if they did nothing wrong. This is how you cause them to hate you. This is the recipe for divisiveness. In this case, they re even alienating people that are supposed to be on the same side because the tactics are so counterproductive for both sides.

Funny parody from the Babylon Bee.

'Biden Never Called For A Georgia Boycott,' Says Jen Psaki As Biden Stands Right Behind Her Holding 'Boycott Georgia' Sign

https://babylonbee.com/news/biden-never-called-for-a-georgia-boycott-says-jen-psaki-as-biden-stands-right-behind-her-holding-boycott-georgia-sign

WASHINGTON, D.C.—After an uproar from Georgia small businesses over MLB boycotting their state, many are demanding answers from President Biden who allegedly encouraged the boycott.

"Biden never called for a boycott of Georgia," said Psaki. As she spoke, she seemed unaware that the President was standing right behind her holding a large "Boycott Georgia" sign.

"We believe that voting should be so easy that it's basically automatic," continued the Press Secretary. "We don't believe there should be literally any commitment or effort required to vote for your favorite Democrat candidate!"

"We believe that simple, automatic voting will be the best way to ensure we stay in power for 1000 years!" she said as Biden waved the sign back and forth.

Psaki suddenly became aware of Biden's presence when he leaned in to sniff her hair.
