When this climate thing was head lines, everybody was on board
When people get affected in a personal way, then all bets are off
Most want all the comforts of today's living standards and don't like higher cost. Even out of control deficits to meet climate change might be an issue with some.
Many want an EV car. When they find out the range and the time required to charge the battery, the cost to convert to alternative, then it might be a new ball game
Maybe when people feel a bit of pain, or not what was expected, attitudes might change
Climate crisis is in all the headlines
But how many want a turbine or solar farm within the horizon of what they thought was peace and quiet, with a peaceful view
When people find out what is costs to move electricity from low density areas to where the need for electricity is highest, and the cost to do so, attitudes may change
When it becomes a mater of cost, or not in my back yard, you never know

I very well might be surprised..............again.
15 years ago, I never thought the hijacking of climate science could pull it off but they did it. Not WILL do it but DID it.
Mainstream everybody, including science pretty much agrees that CO2 is pollution.........even as it massively greens up the planet and increases crop yields during the current climate optimum.
It's the building block for all life and the biggest gift that humans have ever given the planet but the politics has convinced everybody of the opposite and so now, the political agenda is going full speed ahead.
Everybody thinks fossil fuels are toxic to the our planet and wind and solar are green.
It's the 100% opposite.
Once you convince somebody of something, the authentic facts/truth don't matter anymore. One you convince billions of people of something............same thing. It's cognitive bias and the way the human brain works.
CO2=pollution for all these people. It's assumed almost with the confidence of gravity to be proven............and I can authentic science everybody to death with every science principle and empirical data/evidence/observations that show something different and it doesn't matter one iota.
People's brains, now define the world with the assumption that CO2=pollution and telling them that its an entirely beneficial gas for life, would be like telling people that the sun revolves around the earth.
Only I have ALL the facts/science on my side to prove it........but again, brains are unable to objectively process that proof because it is automatically and completely rejected since their assumption/faith in CO2=pollution immediately makes it wrong before it can even reach the stage of being contemplated objectively by their brains.
I get where you are coming from on what happens in the real world when people run out of power. Eventually(in years, after the socialist agenda has been accomplished and we are all paying permanent carbon taxes) it may sink in.
In the beginning, they will do like they did earlier this year.........blame it on climate change. The extreme cold or hot from climate change is what caused it, not the unreliable solar and wind(the wind doesn't blow during major heat waves). There isn't any sunshine during Winter Storms.
Their position is to convince people even more to speed up the shift to fake green energy before climate change(from the climate optimum/fake crisis) gets even worse.
After much of the agenda is accomplished and we are having problems out the wazoo from attempts to do the impossible with fake green energy.....then the truth will finally be resurrected from the dead because of the realities.
We will also be told more truth about the temps not really going up as fast as they said............and that the climate accord and carbon taxes in place helped to save the planet.........hurray for the political and economic changes to society that saved the planet..........but we have to keep doing it or the threat of the climate crisis will return.
I would bet my house that's what will happen.
There will never be a point in time where the gatekeepers manufacturing the exaggerated and false narratives will admit "ok we were wrong" and never, never be a point in time where they tell us why they did it.
Others will do it many years from now as it becomes clear that the climate crisis is a big fat fake.

History will look at this period, in a scientific sense,....how society currently treats/defines the beneficial gas, CO2, similar to the primitive period in medical history when physicians treated sick people by draining out blood to remove the pathogens in their body.
It's the exact same thing but in reverse.
Planet earth is the patient this time!
People have had the ability to do critical thinking, using math and science and common sense completely brainwashed out of them when it comes to the Green New Deal, the Climate Accord and the fake climate crisis.
The overwhelming fake theme impounded in their heads is that we must do all these things "to save the planet"
