Algebra and simplification..

Back in college when I was learning research methods and statistical analysis, I learned all these really neat formulas to measure trends.  Standard deviation  was the simplest.  T Scores were complex.  Corelations were mind bending, especially when you got into multi-regression.   Z scores,   other stuff.   All really neat.

Standard deviation was the square root of the sum of the (scores minus the mean),  or average,  divided by the number of scores.  Scores always formed a bell shaped curve and the resulting deviation  measured the distance from the center of the curve, or the mean.

In one lecture,  I had a professor simplify all these complex formulas.  They all simplify to the "simple" standard deviation. formula.

And here's the thing.   A lot of things simplify down to the simple.

I was thinking about all this recently, and it occured to me...

Just about all political debates these days boil down to personal responsibility.   Should we be held resposible for our personal choices or not?

Wonderful topic Tim!

I agree, that we should be held responsible for our choices and how they affect other people!

Hard times make strong men.

Strong men make good times

Good times make weak men

Weak men make hard times,

Our generation is the result of this evolution.   Our grandchildren will hate us,  I'm sorry we were so stupid.

And I apologize to my ancestors, the greatest generation,  for squandering their many sacrifices.

We are witnesses to the end of the greatest and most successful experiment in self governance in the history of the human race.  And many of us are cheering it's demise.

My heart aches.

The rule of law has been set aside for more important things.  We are living in an Ayn Rand novel.  Or is it Orwell?  Or both?

Fortunately, despite all of this, we are living in the best time in human history because of all the wonderful things and opportunities surrounding us.

Yes, we are not as strong as our ancestors or even our parents but we have MANY more things to be grateful for and take advantage of..........if we choose and it truly is our choice.

Being happy is a choice too.

The COVID pandemic is awful but it need not define us or steal our happiness.

If we get COVID, consider Ivermectin/other supplements but know that if we were smart and got vaccinated, we did the right thing and have the best chance to survive and that's all you can do!

Do your best at everything and live life to the fullest while appreciating the wonderful technology that goes with the wonders of nature that have surrounded humans since they first evolved.

But my entire point is, the greatness of this country is dependent upon our taking responsibility for our actions and choices.   The people claiming that our well being is someone else's responsibility are winning the argument.  When enough people sign up, the country colapses.

More and more people are forgetting the warnings of the founders, the architects of this great expiriment..  Franklin's "Those who prefer security to freedom end up with neither" comes to mind.
