YouTube announced Wednesday that it will ban several prominent accounts that spread false information about vaccines, a move that is part of an expansion of its medical misinformation policies.

Under the new policies, the Google-owned site will remove any videos claiming that approved vaccines are dangerous or cause chronic health side effects.

That means videos implying vaccines cause autism, cancer or infertility will now be taken down.

Videos about vaccine policies, like ones arguing against mandates, will not run afoul of the new guidelines.

As part of the policy launch, several high-profile accounts are being pulled down.

The accounts of Robert F. Kennedy’s Children’s Health Defense Fund, alternative medicine influencer Joseph Mercola and vaccine critic and physician Sherri Tenpenny will all be removed.

These individuals have been identified by experts as partially responsible for the vaccine skepticism that has slowed efforts to inoculate Americans against COVID-19.

YouTube did not act on these well-known accounts sooner, according to Vice President of Global Trust and Safety Matt Halprin, because the platform was focused specifically coronavirus vaccine misinformation.

“As we saw false claims about the coronavirus vaccines spill over into misinformation about vaccines in general, we worked to expand what we’d started with COVID-19 to other vaccines,” he said in a statement.

YouTube, like Facebook and Twitter, banned coronavirus misinformation near the beginning of the pandemic.

Despite those rules, falsehoods about the threat of the virus and vaccines have still flourished online.

Like most other "Got the foot in the door" situations, limiting ,reversing or stopping the practice is considered a joke IMO. Ya know, like temporary taxes.

But John..  It's for our own good.  We need smarter people to filter the information we are exposed to.  I'm sure that pretty soon, they'll crack down on all this climate misinformation floating around too, THANK GOODNESS!!.

"I'm sure that pretty soon, they'll crack down on all this climate misinformation floating around too,"

I've been hearing that alot lately.

Some people have  it in their heads that there's one group or side in charge of all the brainwashing (the "other" side) and their side only tells the truth but its totally NOT true.

As an independent, objective scientist that looks only at authentic science and truth, I can tell you with absolute confidence that BOTH sides are doing it  and most of the time, its entirely different entities imposing the brainwashes with propagada because they work so well. When it's YOUR side doing the brainwashing, you never recognize the brainwash (by definition, or it wouldn't be a brainwash).

1. The climate crisis-left side brainwash. It was started by the United Nations and IPCC.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/27864/

2. The Mueller investigation-left side brainwash......Run by a group, mainly US Intelligence community,  totally independant of other groups.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/75018/#75019

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/74854/#74884

3. Cops are systemically racist-left side brainwash. Run by MSM and dems.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/69939/#69969

4. Biden stole the election from Trump-right side brainwash. Run by Trump and his supporters.  Some pubs claim #2-3 are evidence for #4 to be true. The actual election was run by entities totally independent of groups in #'s 1-3, so that's impossible

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/74854/#74954

5. The vaccines are dangerous and don't work and part of the conspiracy of the government to to take over our lives-right side brainwash. Run by especially far right conspiracy theory sources with FOX leading the way and politicians on board.

Evidence: Note any conversation with Gunter (and a few others) the last 4 months. When I get the chance, I'll compile that list/evidence with something like 3 dozen threads.

There are several things that they all have in common. They use the exact same technique's, repeating convincing sounding, manufactured realities over and over until the targets accept it as the truth. In the case of the last 4, they are all in the USA,  being pushed by the party NOT in control as a tactic to rebel against the party that IS in control.

Climate change is actually the same thing but on a global scale. They are rebelling against capitalism and rich/developed countries in order to impose global socialism to help the poor/undeveloped countries.

In every case above, the ones on the side of truth are portrayed as the ones doing the brainwash, by the side actually doing the brainwash. They accuse the other side of doing exactly what they are doing.

For instance, with the vaccines, the real brainwashers  want you to to think the other side is trying to brainwash you to get vaccinated for nafarious motives, that include taking control of your lives/freedoms/rights.......which will only mark the start of them taking over your lives.

This is a lie. The truth is actually that vaccine advocates, including metmike are TRYING TO SAVE LIVES.

Accusing us, the medical community and others that have completely altruistic motives and are using authentic science based on massive data, of doing something to hurt people is pathetic.

My point above was sarcastic,  just in case there is any doubt.   But it's also a warning.

The idea of having  a few "geniuses" deciding just what information we should  be exposed to is a very dangerous idea.

Our local paper can refuse to print any advertisement, any letter to the editor, or any submitted article  they deem inappropriate. The television station can refuse any advertisement, any local programming. Same with the radio station.

So size matters ?

All the boo hooers getting all hurt because YouTube won’t let me spew whatever crap I choose need to grow up. All this “they’re picking on me”  stuff gets old. Look in the mirror, there’s the problem.

Or maybe all these “free market capitalistic” proponents would like to treat them as utilities, all the better to regulate them, huh. Or maybe just go ahead and nationalize them, that would fit with the current right wing autocratic tendencies.

Try to make any replies contain some original thought, if I want  to know what the latest right wing media conniption fit is, I’ll tune in.

Thanks Tim,

Yes I realize that you were just being sarcastic.

mcfarmer,

I totally get your frustration. With the lefts bainwashes, at least a case can be made for them to have altruistic objectives.

I’m actually FOR most of the real objectives of the fake climate crisis....the climate accord which are to help the worlds poor and reduce overconsumption of natural resources. But they hickacked my profession to trick people into agreeing with it.

I’m strongly against minority discrimination and for holding cops accountable for bad behavior......but they vilified and attacked all the wonderful cops risking the most and doing the most for blacks in the inner cities by making their neighborhoods safer.

The mueller investigation was pure bs designed to get trump.

The 2020 election lie was much worse because it messed up tens of millions of people’s heads permanently  with complete lies, while violently rejecting the constitution.

The anti COVID vaccine crap is actually killing many thousands of people.

So those last 2 brainwashes were several orders of magnitude more damaging than the others and the damage is mounting rapidly right in front of us.

So tens of millions of clear thinking Americans are fed up with it and very, very angry.

The ironic thing is that the targets of the effective brainwash see themselves as the victims but for exactly the wrong thing.

They think the left and MSM are abusing their rights and stealing their freedoms.......even while that side tries to save their lives.

They are actually the victims of their own far right sources......that are using them, stealing their intelligence with propaganda to provoke unjustified anger for a fake political cause.

Gunter,

You ignored my previous question to you about whether you still believe the other conspiracy theories that I debunked with gusto for you here.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/75431/#75520

I will just have to guess that you still do based on the increasing severity of our current belief in the anti COVID vaccine DISinformation and conspiracy theory bunk.

What's interesting is that the more I show you the truth and authentic science/facts/evidence about this topic,  the more extreme you become in NOT believing the truth/facts as you have gone into a delusional mindset that responds to the truth by finding lies to enforce the lies rather than adjust towards the truth.

If we were in a shooting contest and your gun was already missing the entire target, with the bullet passing 3 feet to the right. ............every time that I show you exactly where the bullet landed and where the target is and advice adjusting your site so that the gun shoots much farther left.............you completely reject the advice and do the exact opposite each time......shooting farther and farther right.

We are at the point now, where you are not even hitting the wall where the target is located anymore and will soon be shooting 180 degrees in the opposite direction!!!

Oh McFarmer,  you're always so fun.   Yes,  I get it.  1st amendment requires actions on the part of government and private sector has a certain amount of leeway.   I knew you'd be all for that, when you agree with the censorship.

But here's the problem.  When a local TV station or Newspaper refuses ads or stories, there are other papers and Tv Stations who probably will not.  Even on the network level,  particularly with cable, there are plenty of options.

But how many Youtubes are there?   How many Facebooks?   What are the options?  Oddly enough,  a startup alternative named Parler was shut down by  big tech because they didn't like the content.   Woud not lease them the internet access.

So, these social media platforms are in a unique category and certain questions need to be considered/answered.

Back to the subject of censorship.

You can always make arguments for censorship  as long as you don't think it through to the logical conclusion.  The problem with it is,  it will start with the ban of certain things/subjects that just about everyone feels should be banned.    But it always expands.

For example,  I could hear arguments about silencing teachers who find joy in poisoning the minds of our youth with debunked lies about people like Columbus. But I know a better approach is to hope the schools actually make some sort of effort to get the truth out.  And if the schools fail, then the parents.  Unlike you, even when I disagree with the subject matter,  I still don't support censorship,

But the above scenario does perplex me.   If someone gave two poops about this country, how could they find joy in discrediting someone like Columbus?  At best,  after making every reasonable effort to verify (which obviously was not done),  I would see it as a necessary evil,  certainly not a joyful occasion.

But I digress.

The simple fact is that there are certain questions raised by these social media platforms that are defacto monopolies. Should the SEC start anti-trust actions?   How would you break up something like Facebook?  How would that look?   Should they be treated like public utilities?

Lots of questions, and quite frankly, I don't have the answers.  But allowing major avenues of information exchange to be controlled by a few with a demonstrated political agenda seems like a very bad idea.

Sorry mcfarmer, I'm the unbiased, objective judge, sometimes ref  and sometimes peacemaker and the ruling is YOU started it and I already provided the evidence.

You came out of nowhere to attack/demean republicans with negative comments about their belief system and character............so what form did you expect the response from  them to be in??

You are a valuable poster that makes great points and we need your side represented more frequently but yesterday, when you made that post, my initial reaction was to scold you for picking a fight...........then, I changed my mind and decided to   defend you based on the frustration that many of us are feeling right now.............including the both of us........and continue on the path of making it a discussion on how BOTH sides are being brainwashed/affected vs entirely attacking just ONE side..........even though the main topic is still about THIS CURRENT brainwash of the right.

You're a very smart man, in fact a school teacher,  so I don't have to break down the verbiage of your post to explain what I'm referring to.

mcfarmer,

Why do you insist on doing this to yourself out of stubborness and lack of objective thinking. How can a  higher educated person not see this?   And you ARE highly educated.

It's called being blinded by cognitive bias with  a bit of hatred mixed in.

Would you like me to help you with those traits? I'm actually pretty good at it........seriously. However, most people here ignore my advise.

Let's do it like a school teacher would in grading an English paper and only since you are begging me to show how you are wrong:

Your statement: All the boo hooers getting all hurt because YouTube won’t let me spew whatever crap I choose need to grow up.

 OK, no, I won’t."

1. "Please show me where I referenced Republicans"

metmike: You were clearly referring to Republicans "that replies here would reflect the latest right wing media conniption fit..........but you made it much worse  by suggesting(even before you saw a reply) that the replies would not "contain original thought"

Your statement:

Please show me where I disparaged anyone’s professionalism or made direct personal attacks.

metmike: Beside the above, you called them "boo hooers"  and referred  to their posts and messages as "spewing crap" and that they needed to "grow up" as well as other unkind references.

You singled them out as "free market capitalistic" and referred again, to "right wing autocratic tendencies"

Where I'm from mcfarmer, right wing means republicans. How about you?

Then you finished with

I’ll tune in.

 OK, no, I won’t.

metmike: Which was your demeaning way of saying that whatever they respond with, it's not worth your while to read.

Since YOU are the one that turned this into a huge deal and insisted on continuing after I tried to end it quickly, let's review the rock solid facts here(from somebody that defended your position yesterday).

1. mcfarmer made a very inflammatory, demeaning comment with half a dozen negative references and attacks on republicans

2. Yesterday metmike mostly defended mcfarmers  position while deflecting the attacks and NOT calling attention to them.

3. Tim, totally as expected and actually justified in this case, responded back in kind.

4. mcfarmer got bent out of shape and cried foul play and wanted the moderator to take action because he claimed that Tim attacked him.

5. The moderator, looked at the comments again, in an objective fashion and ruled that mcfarmer started it all.

6. That wasn't good enough for mcfarmer who complained more in a confrontational manner

7. metmike made it crystal clear, while trying to be as respectful as possible that mcfarmer started it.

8. That still wasn't good enough for mcfarmer who became even more confrontational and demanded that metmike answer specific questions

9. metmike answered all those questions and pointed out WITH THE EXACT VERBIAGE the numerous, attacks that mcfarmer made, targeting republicans here in his post.

10. The totally ironic thing  related to mcfarmers original post is this statement: "All the boo hooers getting all hurt because YouTube won’t let me spew whatever crap I choose need to grow up. All this “they’re picking on me”  stuff gets old. Look in the mirror, there’s the problem."

This entire, very silly and unproductive  conversation with mcfarmer has been all about him being convinced that Tim unfairly picked on him and with mcfarmer boo hooing out the whazoo to the moderator, totally refusing to accept the objective facts and just go on because he thinks the crap that he spewed to start the conversation should be protected but no protection should be given to any justified  responses to it.

Hate is the most destructive emotion of all.

"It will cause you to lower and violate the  previous standards that you set for yourself for ethical behavior and honestly because this emotion drives you to hurt the person that you hate more than those  previous standards cause you to follow the truth and be objective...............and act professionally, with integrity.

It will cause you to do and say things that are harmful to you and your reputation when the hate becomes neurotic because you become so obsessed with harming the hated person that rational thinking no longer applies.

Your interpretation of circumstances involving the hated person becomes so blatantly skewed  that the hoped for endpoint in every realm is always for them to be hurt.

Hate blackens the heart and soul of the hater. It can ruin personal relationships and ironically, more often than not destroys the hater, not the target of their hatred.

Mike, the mistake that is being made is that I reference the population as a whole, seldom individual posters.

It is when someone attacks a poster individually that most forums draw the line.

The following crosses that line:

“For example,  I could hear arguments about silencing teachers who find joy in poisoning the minds of our youth with debunked lies about people like Columbus. But I know a better approach is to hope the schools actually make some sort of effort to get the truth out.  And if the schools fail, then the parents.  Unlike you, even when I disagree with the subject matter,  I still don't support censorship, ”

I understand your position. You have a difficult job herding  all the cats and I commend your attempts to let folks air out their positions, no matter how much you might disagree and then take the time to show how the facts may show a different story. You are walking into a strong headwind.

However, if you desire positive give and take you will not allow for personal attacks.

I understand the temptation to resort to such antics, when posters are  unable to refute the solid evidence presented the ill equipped will lower the level and start throwing mud.

I respect your desire to raise the level of discourse and educate when possible; indeed, as moderator you probably feel an obligation. I however have too many other interests to engage in juvenile back and forth with persons over the Internet whom I couldn’t care less about.

To be clear, the last sentiment is not direct towards you.

I also understand the fear the folks on the right have these days. Their America is slipping away, the waves of progress will erode the barriers being erected by those wishing to fight the tide of demographics. The right is desperate; those in power know what’s coming, it can be postponed, but not prevented.

Sad, really.

Oh, and I don’t  have the inclination to hate. Pity is probably a better word.

Dude, I was on your side when you brought this issue up. Can't you see that?

I'm compelled to apply myself as the moderator and providing objective analysis here.

Stop  pretending  like you attacking  republicans character and directing demeaning statements at republicans was not directed, specifically at the republics here.

Now, even the moderator's  decisions don't suit you because you want actions taken against somebody in the group that you blatantly picked a fight with. You targeted EVERY REPUBLICAN at this site and Tim is just one of them...........and he responded.

If there is not hate involved then why does your behavior display exactly the actions of somebody enraged with hate?

Is this a new form of love or tolerance or humility or cooperation that I haven't been taught yet?
