Man removed from heart transplant list for being unvaccinated gets emergency pump

https://nypost.com/2022/01/27/man-removed-from-heart-transplant-list-for-being-unvaccinated-gets-emergency-pump/

Despite the open-heart surgery, Ferguson still needs a transplant urgently due to his rapid deterioration, his parents told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday.

“He got led down a path where they had to stop doing procedures where they said he was qualified nonetheless for the heart transplant. But he had to get the vaccine in order to get that transplant,” David Ferguson said on the program, Fox News reported.

David Ferguson has said his son doesn’t believe in the COVID-19 vaccine.

“It’s kind of against his basic principles, he doesn’t believe in it. It’s a policy they are enforcing and so because he won’t get the shot, they took him off the list of a heart transplant,” he told CBS Boston.

The parents later insisted their son does not oppose vaccines, saying he just worries the jab would complicate his heart condition.

The sad fact is that this poor man is a victim of COVID vaccine MISinformation.

Refusing to get vaccinated is a bad enough decision for healthy people that have been bamboozled by MISinformation but for somebody that wants to be a candidate for receiving a transplant its retarded to refuse to get vaccinated for COVID and the other vaccinations that are required.

All patients receiving transplants MUST be on strong immunosuppresent drugs for their entire lives to keep their bodies from rejecting the organ of another person transplanted into their bodies(that recognize it as a foreign object/invader).

Being on strong immunosuppresents to suppress their immune system means that their intentionally weakened immune system is not as effective at fighting certain diseases and sicknesses.

There are several that they are required to be vaccinated for, including COVID.

This is a pretty universally understood/no brainer requirement at most hospitals that do transplants.

There are over 100,000 people waiting for organ transplants but not nearly enough organs to go around.

So medical boards/hospitals have policies in place to give them to the people who are  likely to benefit the most and make a commitment to protect that organ.

An 85 year old man is not going to get one for instance because he's not going to live very long and a transplant surgery like this might kill a person that age.

Somebody with a terminal  illness, severe diabetes or other major disease that is likely to wreck that donated organ is also not going get a transplant.

Somebody refusing to agree to take all the meds/immunosuppresants that MUST be taken before and especially after the operation will not get an organ.

Somebody refusing to get the vaccines needed to increase their odds of avoiding severe sickness or death from diseases that have protective vaccines.

On Tucker's show, he did not mention any of this one time.

Instead, he claimed that the hospital was punishing this man and giving him a death sentence  because the hospital was political in enforcing Bidens's vaccine mandate.

According to Tucker, this is entirely political and there were not other reasons.

According to Tucker,  because this man has a major heart problem, the vaccine's adverse side affects could kill him and that's why he's not getting vaccinated.

His family claims that he was at the top of the list, already approved to get his heart transplant, then all of a sudden, the hospital took him off the list because he refused to get vaccinated.

According to the hospital, there description of the how it happened is impossible based on the dynamics of the process and it absolutely not true.

Now..........the truth:

Brigham and Women's Hospital Logo

COVID vaccination for transplant candidates

https://www.brighamandwomens.org/about-bwh/newsroom/transplant-candidate-vaccination

Given the shortage of available organs, we do everything we can to ensure that a patient who receives a transplanted organ has the greatest chance of survival. Our Mass General Brigham healthcare system requires several CDC-recommended vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine, and lifestyle behaviors for transplant candidates to create both the best chance for a successful operation and to optimize the patient’s survival after transplantation, given that their immune system is drastically suppressed. Patients are not active on the waitlist without this. Research has shown that transplant recipients are at a much higher risk of dying from COVID-19 when compared to non-transplant patients. This guidance is in alignment with recommendations from the American Society of Transplantation, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.

  • Like most other transplant programs across the country, the COVID-19 vaccine is one of several vaccines and lifestyle behaviors that are required for patients awaiting solid organ transplant.
  • Transplant candidates must also receive the seasonal influenza and hepatitis B vaccines, follow other healthy behaviors, and demonstrate they can commit to taking the required medications following transplant.
  • At the Brigham and across our system, we have transplant guidelines that we follow in alignment with recommendations from the American Society of Transplantation, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. More information is available here.
  • We follow this guidance in order to create both the best chance for a successful operation and also the patient’s disease-free survival, given that their immune system is suppressed after transplant.
  • Research has shown that transplant recipients are at a higher risk of dying from COVID-19 when compared to non-transplant patients. Transplant recipients must take immunosuppressive medications after receiving a transplanted organ. This means that after a transplant, recipients will develop less of an antibody response to a vaccine and are especially vulnerable to severe illness if they contract the virus.
  • For this reason, experts recommend COVID-19 vaccination before organ transplantation to lower the chance of severe disease and death if a recipient becomes infected.
  • Exceptions to these requirements are reviewed by a multidisciplinary group of experts in transplantation.

More Hospitals Are Removing Transplant Patients From Lists Due to COVID Vaccine Status

https://www.newsweek.com/more-hospitals-are-removing-transplant-patients-lists-due-covid-vaccine-status-1672946

Despite the reasoning, hospitals and transplant centers are standing their ground on patient vaccination status. Other transplant centers in Washington, Vermont, Massachusetts and Alabama have policies requiring that recipients be vaccinated, according to reports.

The sad thing is that this gentleman really is a victim............a victim of MISinformation about the COVID vaccine and he could very well have gotten it from the show yesterday, Tucker C and Fox that interviewed him and his family and twisted the facts around like a pretzel to support even MORE MISinformation featuring anti science, anti COVID lies making people believe that the vaccine is more dangerous than and kills more people than COVID.

I watched it myself on Fox on  Wednesday, which is how I first found out about this story.

My facts and evidence/opinions didn't come from the MSM or any other source. They came from metmike watching Fox and understanding the science and a great deal about immunosuppresents.

I've been on an immunosuppresent(prednisone) every day since 1994 because of my autoimmune disease.

At-Risk Americans Become Eligible for Fourth COVID Shot This Week

https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20220110/at-risk-americans-fourth-covid-shot

According to CDC guidance, people are considered to be “moderately or severely immunocompromised” if they have:

  • Active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Had an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Had a stem cell transplant in the last 2 years and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency, such as DiGeorge syndrome or Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that suppress the immune response

sad fact is that money enters into this transplant list dilemma. If you happen to be very wealthy it is amazing how you can jump most any line. Just look at congress and how they jump lines everyday of the week, and David Crosby jumping his transplant line as another example of what money can do to obtain a new organ.

Not sure that's really relevant McFarm.  Yeah, money can buy advantages,  and that's not really fair, but life ain't fair.

In this case.....

There are a lot of disqualifiers for assorted tranplants.  Doctors have to decide who the best candidates are since the organs are rare and expensive. They want the highest possible chance for success.

It's unfortunate he chooses to be disqualified for something like this.  Nearly as bad as someone who refuses to quit smoking.
