What is Gandhi best known for?

Better known as the Mahatma, or great soul, Gandhi was an Indian lawyer who led his country to freedom from British colonial rule in 1947. ... Gandhi is most famous for his philosophy of nonviolence that has inspired civil rights leaders around the world.

He would be proud

I know that you guys will disagree because you get all your news from the far right but the people supporting these truckers...........already supported them.

Their movement may be backfiring.

One of the biggest and very serious concerns of Canadians and Americans for the past year+ is the lack of supplies making it into our stores and elsewhere.

Truckers are responsible for much of that supply. You guys may think that this means they have everybody by their balls and can use this as leverage to get their demands met.

It seems like the average Joe does not see it the same way as the far right on this

You guys, being anti government,  see them as  warriors of freedom by refusing to do their jobs instead of doing what the government told them to do, related to COVID.

Many people see these truckers quite differently.

I suspect that this Canadian trucker movement was a factor in Wayne  going off the deep end less than 2 weeks ago.

Wayne lives in Canada and was a trucker for many years.

metmike: Like everything else in the last year, this looks like its turning into another standstill issue that features 2 sides that care much more about being right about everything and are not able to hear anything that anybody says if they think that it disagrees with them..........even when some of it might agree with them. Their objective is to fight, not to resolve and get along...causing a hopeless deadlock.

Which defines the posting of some people here too.

Sadly, this truckers protest in Canada, caused one of our long lived contributors, a Canadian here to go off the deep end, making numerous personal attacks and vowing to never follow rules here........because he's a Canadian. Then repeating this over and over when I tried to reason with him and give him half a dozen chances to follow our rules.

Since Omicron is totally different than Delta, the rules and restrictions that made sense based on the science of Delta need to be updated so they apply to Omicron and the latest authentic science.

Cloth mask mandates were not based on effective science from the get go.

Tough vaccine mandates and COVID restrictions made sense in 2021.....not in 2022.

They made a good start recently by finally telling us the truth about N95 masks after almost 2 years!

Get covid Therapeutics weather vaccinated or not vaccinated

I think that dropping the tougher restrictions is totally, 100% inevitable, just because the numbers are crashing lower from an obvious peak and this protest will play no role in that decision. The justification for these restrictions is vanishes right before our eyes based on the science...........which they will have to acknowledge.

They will NOT acknowledge the freedom element but WILL acknowledge the science.

Omicron bailed us out.........and joj actually predicted this a year ago.

I probably don’t agree with much that the truckers are protesting. However, as I’ve said here a number of times, I hate double standards. In this case, I’m talking about the truckers blocking traffic. Whereas I don’t at all like these truckers blocking traffic since that can potentially lead to, for example, ambulances not getting to the hospital fast enough and lots of business lost, major inconvenience, etc. I said the same about the BLM protests. Yet, the MSM and many Dems, who never criticized the BLM protests blocking traffic, are criticizing the truckers for blocking traffic. Why were they not against BOTH the BLM blockages and the trucker blockages?

Great points Larry.

In the Ottawa protest the truckers have a lane open for emergency and police traffic. They are being allowed to move trucks from residential areas to Wellington St.to help residential areas. One trucker said that they didn’t want to be in the residential areas, but that they were directed there. As for loss of business the government told the locals to shut down. There are reports that crime in protest area is down as much as 90% The protesters clean garbage, shovel snow.

If you can get past the obvious support by the u-tubers. And just watch the camera footage (from those that are just walking the streets) it tells a story.

Seriously cutworm? Spinning this into something that is reducing crime???

Did you not forget that shutting down/closing business's because of COVID also stopped crime for those businesses. Why didn't you mention that as a benefit then?

Maybe if you have a total crop failure from extreme weather, you can claim the drought was a good thing because it saved you time and fuel costs at harvest time and increased your profits from the zero yield crop (-:

And the loss of business was actually from the government and not this?

And they really didn't want to be there but they were directed to be there?

WTH! Then why did they ignore the numerous sources insisting that they get out?

That last post tells us exactly where you're coming from on this.

No matter what happens, you're going to interpret every iota of information so that it supports what you want to believe and will twist things(like a pretzel) that don't support it......into facts that do support it.

Mike, do we want different classes of people, like one class having to ride on the back of the bus?

No cutworm, we don't want different classes of people and no cutworm, this is NOT like Rosa Parks fighting racial discrimination  by sitting in the front of the bus........pleeeease don't twist it that far.

You are just continuing the  cheerleading for one side and twisting every fact possible to make absurd rationalizations that defy any sort of critical thinking.

As if we should be grateful that this is lowering crime rates and akin to blacks having to sit at the back of the bus(this last one is actually offensive):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_bus_boycott

cutworm,

You've just managed to turn me AGAINST your cause because of all the absolutely absurd and even offensive connections that you are trying to credit them with.

When people have a legit/authentic cause.........THEY USE THE FACTS that define their cause and don't make up absurd shist, even if their minds think that or they heard it on Fox  to attribute totally absurd altruistic benefits that absolutely have ZERO to do with whats going on.

What you should be asking is:

1. Why did your mind make up those absurd things? and/or

2. Why did you believe the sources that told you those absurd things??

That is, if you care one iota about being objective and representing authentic facts.

If you just want to be a far right cheerleader.........continue on.

To help you out.........in case you really can't tell the difference with the sitting in the back of the bus thing.

That was based on RACIAL DISCRIMINATION.

This is a disagreement based on the enforcement of a public health policy.

There is no racial discrimination or intentionally singling out/targeting a group of people with laws only applied to them(the same law applies to ALL Canadians-but truckers don't want that law) .

Human rights violations, maybe?

What is behind the 'truckagedon' blockades?

By Sheldon H. Jacobson, Ph.D., opinion contributor      —      02/14/22 12:45 PM EST

https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/594129-what-is-behind-the-truckagedon-blockades

The protesters have been unyielding in their demands for the removal of mandates. Unfortunately, social media has provided a platform for inaccurate information that has influenced people about the vaccines, as well as the virus in general.

Note that all cross-border travelers must provide proof of vaccination, not just truckers. As such, cross border truckers are not being singled out — they are just the most visible group acting out in protest.

So, what do the truck blockades accomplish?

Not much. They certainly disturb commerce, further fueling shortages of items in the supply chain that many of the very people creating the blockades may themselves need. For example, if medical devices or pharmaceuticals become in short supply, patient needs may go unmet, resulting in unnecessary complications and possibly even deaths. Shortages in automobile parts are forcing auto plants to shutdown, making it harder to fill demand for new vehicles and possibly obtain replacement parts. The supply chain risks grow the longer the blockades continue.

On a practical note, to avoid the cross-border mandate, those who remain unwilling to take a vaccine might seek to limit their trucking efforts to one country, avoiding any border crossings.

But in reality, even that is not the issue.

Both the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Canada’s Teamster Union do not support the blockade protests. Moreover, around 90 percent of Canadian truckers are vaccinated, a number in line with Canadian vaccination rates. American truckers have shown little support for the blockades.

cutworm,

I do appreciate your sincere opinions here and thank you.

I'd been mostly on the fence for weeks looking at both sides and trying to stay that way as long as possible so as to not miss any good points from either side.

Watching Fox's total bs on this recently made it especially challenging to stay on the fence.

I'm still looking for more good(or bad) points by either side but  as a representative of one side, your points helped to clarify where your side is coming from.

Metmike imho has been making a lot of good posts in here and in other threads regarding the idea of political based tribalism influenced cognitive dissonance. He isn’t getting much support by many posters, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he couldn’t be mainly right. Keep in mind that that same cognitive dissonance will keep support for Mike’s comments limited. Thank goodness he’s countering a lot of the CG with solid objective data.

Because this board is somewhat dominated by far righties, the CG here is dominated imo by those who believe a lot of what far right sources say without questioning it enough.

By the way, I’m no lefty. I’m very much a moderate independent.
