This is the 850 temperature anomaly map from the NCEP Ensemble mean that I like to use to see large scale blobs of heat/cold and track them globally thru 360 hours.
People familiar with this product, will note that in the Winter, these anomalies are much more impressive but this one over Europe is pretty impressive for the hottest time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, when heat anomaly extremes are tougher to generate because of the increasing negative feedbacks inherent in the system the hotter that it gets.
Cold anomalies in the Winter are also much MORE extreme because they’re experiencing ZERO solar radiation to low angled weak solar radiation in the high latitudes. This maximizes net heat loss for months during that time of year. When cold air pools under that environment…..it’s REALLY cold air.
In the Summer, at the high latitudes you have solar radiation most of the day to offset heat loss to minimize the magnitude of the cold(cool) air pooling.
So let’s actually discuss the impressive positive anomaly feature on this map.
If you live in that region right now, it’s huge but looking at the big picture, it’s isolated/over a small area of the planet and tells us…….
that its clearly not global in nature. Instead, it’s the result of unique, regional weather dynamics that all came together in one spot at one point in time………..and since its the hottest time of year climatologically in the Northern Hemisphere………..wherever this type of thing happens, it will result in record highs, potentially all time highs.
This is part of the very expected weather/climate on the planet.
If not, then do you expect us to never get hotter or colder than the temperatures of the last century+(since records have been kept)?
You would have to assume that extreme temperatures from 1850-2022 should never be broken because that was the most extreme time in the last 10,000 years.

Very likely. The average temperature in the UK has been around +1 degree C warmer vs 100 years ago.
So places hitting 40 deg. C today, would likely have been just 39 deg. C a century ago.

La Nina's are natural and they are cool water anomalies in the eastern and central tropical Pacific. They're the complete opposite of an El Nino(which warms the planet) and they COOL the global temperature. This is a big part of why there has been no global warming for numerous years now.

The tropical (20N-20S) anomaly for June was -0.36 deg. C, which is the coolest monthly anomaly in over 10 years, the coolest June in 22 years, and the 9th coolest June in the 44 year satellite record.
The linear warming trend since January, 1979 still stands at +0.13 C/decade (+0.11 C/decade over the global-averaged oceans, and +0.18 C/decade over global-averaged land).
Read how this reporter, rationalizes why a 2 day EXTREME heat wave in 2022 is much, MUCH worse than a 2 month long heat wave and drought in 1976 because this particular heat wave was 4 degrees hotter than the hottest day in that stretch that was 20 times longer and not based on a freak weather dynamic(like this)......more of a longer lasting one that had MUCH greater impact in Europe than this heat wave.

There has been 1 deg. C of warming imposed on the system, most of it in the coldest places(high latitudes) during the coldest time of year which is NOT Summer.
The sea lvels are still increasing at around 1 inch/decade, slightly more than the rate of 100 years ago but less than the rate during the Medieval, Roman and Minoan Warm periods and much less than the rate of the Holocene Climate Optimum between 9,000 to 5,000 years ago that was 2 deg. WARMER than this in the higher latitudes and when there was LESS Arctic ice then we have now.
Note that the warmest period in the last 10,000 years has always been called a climate OPTIMUM.
Now, weather NOT AS warm, along with only half the optimal level of CO2 in the air for much of life is called a climate CRISIS.

Since 1988, the Midwest has seen only 1 widespread severe drought(2012) when historically, BEFORE climate change we had 3-4 droughts during a similar time frame.
Best growing conditions there and many other places on the planet in the last 1,000 years. Not in spite of climate change but because of it.
The 1930's featured almost a decade of drought (4 major episodes actually) across that region and it expanded beyond that at times. The map below is from that drought near its worst but it persisted similar to this for most of the decade.

Climate costs
Next we look at the cost of societal problems compared to climate costs:

Climate change is comparatively a small problem, and so it’s no wonder many people view climate change as something they don’t worry about. Very much on people’s minds nowadays is the totally fouled up economy that the climate alarmists are in large part responsible for.
Record low flood deaths
Professor Lomborg also analyzed the number of people killed by floods in Europe, Figure 3:

Once again we have technology and fossil fuels to thank for that successful development. But for alarmists, it’s always the fire fighters who are responsible for the fires.
Cold kills far more
When there are heat waves, the climate crazies always seize on the few dozen deaths that occur. But when there are cold waves, they keep silent. And as professor Lomborg shows again, in a chart appearing in Lancet, cold today still kills far more people than heat does:

Central Europe trending wetter
Europe is suffering ever more from drought, the alarmists claim, and soon there will be a planetary emergency. Yet, when we look at the rainfall for Germany going back 140 years, wee see that the long-term trend is the opposite: wetter.

The last decade in Germany has been dry, and this is due to natural cycles. But over the long-term, we see it has gotten wetter since industrialization began.
There are many other metrics showing there’s no crisis we need to worry about. What we indeed need to worry about are the alarmists declaring a permanent state of emergency and taking rights, truths and freedoms away. If that happens, then the planet will surely go to hell in a handbasket really quickly.
