USDA (NASS) will publish its first 2022 U.S. #corn yield outlook next Friday.

USDA (WAOB) has yield at 177 bu/acre, tying last year's record.

Here's how the August estimates compared with final* last year.

Way too high in Illinois to start but too low in Iowa, Neb & Minn.

2022 U.S. yield expectations ahead of USDA's Friday report:

 #Corn 175.9 bu/acre,

 #soybeans 51.1 bu/acre

Of 24 analysts polled, 21 think corn yield comes in lower than July's 177, but only 1 thinks higher. 18/24 see soy yield lower than July's 51.5, only 1 pegged it higher.

USDA's #corn yield comes in lower than the trade thought but #soybeans higher.

Old-crop U.S. #corn/soybean stocks got a little bigger (soy exports/ethanol cut), though new-crop corn is lower on a smaller crop and #soybeans higher on a larger crop. USDA raised 22/23 #wheat and soy exports but trimmed corn.

Not much notable with U.S. #wheat production - numbers came in very close to expectations. A total wheat crop of 1.78 billion bushels compares with 1.65 billion last year.

No changes from last month to South American estimates for the old or new crop. Not surprising.

USDA's 22/23 world #corn stocks forecast shrinks from July on smaller US/EU crop, #soybeans expand w/ US crop prospects, #wheat nearly unch but many crop changes to note, including #Russia at 88 mmt vs 81.5 mmt last month. China soy imports unch.

The only U.S. states where #corn yield is doing notably better than last year are in the northwest (Dakotas, Minn). Otherwise, many states in worse shape, especially in the southeast. Iowa is set to tie last year's high. Wisc the only other state coming up w/ record

Interesting to see how #soybeans achieved 51.9 bu/acre in 2016 and compare w/ USDA's 2022 forecast. The east/south/southeast is anchoring the high yield this year while the west and north are not expected to match their 2016 success.

USDA's yield forecast for U.S. #soybeans ties 2016's record 51.9 bu/acre, bolstered by new records in eastern states incl. top grower Illinois. It is likely dryness in Nebraska & Iowa has limited potential there, but North Dakota is seen bouncing back from last year's drought.

Results of USDA's acreage resurvey. Harvested acres in millions are shown (vs June forecast).

All other states not shown below had unch acres from June.

#CornMN 7.7 (was 7.8) USA 81.84 (81.94)

#SoybeansND 5.65 (was 5.85) SD 5.35 (5.45) USA 87.211 (87.511)

U.S. #corn production comes in lower than expected but #soybeans higher, despite the decline in soy harvested acres following the resurvey of Dakotas/Minn. Soy yield is expected to tie 2016's record.
