for early sept total traffic is off more than 3% y-o-y

for august total traffic is flat y-o-y.  container traffic is down,  all other carloads are up.  

for the first 8 months of the year, container traffic is off 5%, but all other carloads are flat. y-o-y. 

my take,  stock markets are rebounding because companies have raised prices. (pricing power).  but not because folks can buy more stuff.  

domestically, it looks like volumes of raw materials are mostly flat.  

container traffic is worse than bulk raw material shipments.   container traffic is most likely effected by 2 things. one is the problems in china.  the other is the fact that americans have less spending power as prices have risen.
