Ron DeSantis announces 2024 presidential bid live updates: Super PAC rolls out slate of new endorsements for White House bid

https://nypost.com/2023/05/24/ron-desantis-kicks-off-2024-presidential-campaign-live-updates/

+++++++++++++

I disagree with a few things when it comes to DeSantis but there can never be a perfect match for me, being an Independent and maybe closest to Libertarian.

Watching the interview on Fox was such a breath of fresh air. A young person with tons of great ideas and the ability to communicate with crystal clarity without telling a lie a minute or rambling with nonsense.

Very disciplined and specific about the strategy and reasoning for it.

We've haven't had a candidate like that representing either party since 2012.

I really like Tim Scott a great deal too.

So who else is running?

Marianne Williamson

Her 2024 policy platform backs universal government-run healthcare, free childcare, at least $1tn (£800bn) in slavery reparations to black Americans and a federal agency called the Department of Peace.

Robert F Kennedy Jr

But he has been publicly shunned by much of his family over what they call his "tragically wrong" conspiracy theories about vaccines, and embraced by far-right personalities like Alex Jones and Steve Bannon.

Mr Kennedy's vaccine scepticism long predated Covid-19, but he found a new audience during the pandemic, when revenues to the anti-vaccine non-profit he founded in 2011 doubled

However, no matter that the other 2 above are probably  the 3rd and 4th worst candidates in history, (Biden being the 2nd worst) if they should get the nomination. I will likely vote for them if the R on the ballet in November 2024, is the guy on the next page.

I HAVEN'T WATCHED THAT ANNOUNCEMENT, YET. BUT.... I WILL

1. PERSONALLY, I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR A PRO-ABORTION CANDIDATE

2 I'VE ALWAYS LIKED TIM SCOTT.  I DID/DO FIND HIS USE OF THE WORDS: "BEING "TARGETED", BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF HIS SKIN, OFFENSIVE, THO'.  I'VE BEEN STOPPED BY THE COPS, NUMEROUS TIMES.  NOT ONCE DID I THINK IT WAS BECAUSE I'M WHITE, OR A WOMAN. (EVEN THO' I KNOW WOMEN DO GET PULLED OVER, FOR  ONE "PURPOSE" & ONE "PURPOSE", ONLY.)

3. I LIKE DESANTIS!  FROM ALL ACCOUNTS, HE'S A GREAT FAMILY MAN ~ MILITARY ~ ESPECIALLY SHARP MINDED ~ GREAT GOVERNOR, ETC.  BUT....... THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOVERNING A STATE, LOADED WITH "YOUR" PARTY, IN STATE GOVT., & GOVERNING A MAJORLY DIVIDED CONGRESS & NATION.

4. I DON'T KNOW WHO I WILL VOTE FOR, BUT... I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR THE "LESSER OF TWO EVILS".

Thanks Jean!

This message below is not directed to you as we have a wonderful understanding/relationship.

I realize that this thread will be interpreted as trying to influence others to vote the same way.

I guess there's no way to completely avoid doing that anytime people explain why they are voting for a candidate. Considering that I extremely analyze everything about everything here, including this it seems even more so, a compelling case being made to vote for DeSantis being made, especially since I hammer the non DeSantis candidates.

I know that we have others that prefer different candidates and parties and in this democracy, don't want this thread to foster a tribalistic mentality.........us vs them or me vs you mentality, that results in politics in 2023 when you disagree with somebody.

That's exactly why people prefer to go to echo chambers instead of ANTI echo chambers like MarketForum.

So the point is that we can totally disagree on who to vote for and I'm really NOT trying to change your vote.

Please get over the fact that I'm voting different than you and that we disagree with other political items.

Feel free to post your opinions, especially those that disagree with mine.........then let's continue to be friends and even focus on common ground. Since that doesn't seem to work so well with most people in 2023........I'm cool with that too.

We can only control our own thinking and the messages that WE sent out.

Why aren’t any Democrats running against Joe Biden in 2024? The trouble with ‘intra-party’ challenges to a sitting president

https://news.northeastern.edu/2023/05/11/democrats-running-against-biden/

“It’s very risky for a party to challenge its own leader,” Panagopoulos says. “It has the potential to do lots of damage, especially when it’s an intra-party challenge to an incumbent president, who should presumably carry the banner forward for the party.”

Costas Panagopoulos, head of Northeastern’s political science department and editor of American Politics Research. Photo by Matthew Modoono/Northeastern University

Indeed, history has shown that intra-party challenges to an incumbent president often lead to messy outcomes for the party in question. Ted Kennedy’s challenge to Jimmy Carter in 1980 did lasting damage to the Democratic Party that culminated in Carter’s landslide defeat to Ronald Reagan. On the Republican side, intra-party challenges to Gerald Ford in 1976 (Reagan), and to George H. W. Bush in 1992 (Pat Buchanan), resulted in similar outcomes.

The lessons that emerged from those historical examples may well serve the Democrats in the present moment—that even amid low favorability, challenges from within an incumbent president’s own party are fool’s errands, Panagopoulos says.

“In each of those instances, the consensus is that [those intra-party challenges] may have hurt the incumbent[s] and played some role in the fact that they were not re-elected,” he says.

The lack of Democratic challengers in 2024 and the resurgence of Trump may also signal “a real leadership vacuum in both parties” for future leaders, Panagopoulos says. In which case, “there could be a real opportunity for some ambitious politicians, who want to raise their national visibility, to start to attract some attention” by launching presidential bids. Even if said contenders fall short in 2024, the newfound popularity could “set themselves up to be at the head of the pack” in a future race. Ron DeSantis’ expected presidential bid might typify this line of thinking.

But, for aspiring Democrats, such a move risks party fracture on the order of Kennedy-Carter, Panagopoulos says. “Of course, for the Dems it would come with the very significant risk of trying to topple a sitting president,” he says.

I was going to post the exact same thoughts as the author above but would have never come close to matching the comprehensive article being shared from somebody far more qualified to do it!

More rock solid evidence that ex President Trump is mentally ill and is more deserving of aggressive in patient therapy or spending time in prison than of holding political office.

Trump doesn’t even believe this BS and even his most ardent supporters know it’s nonsense. Florida became the beacon of freedom for the entire country (and world) during Covid. Over a million people moved here including all his family. (1,200 people move here a day even now.)

I genuinely mean this to any ardent Trump supporter… Do you believe this? Do you think this is the right way to win? Should you offer support now matter how deeply dishonest his actions are?

Jean,

That was not my quote but came from another  person that I copied because I liked it.

This is me typing at length about this topic:

     Something Is Seriously Wrong withTrump

         https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95085

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95119

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95130

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95138

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95142

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95154

With regards to the right way to win in my book:

1. Tell the truth almost all the time. Trump lies most of the time and 10+ times more than 2nd place.

2. Have transparency. Trump is totally lacking in transparency.

3. Have great agenda and most importantly with a reasonable strategy to accomplish objectives. For instance, Trump telling us that he would end the war in 24 hours sounds great to somebody like me that wants the war to end and loves to hear that.........but I also have a brain that knows this is just Trump embellishing/bragging astronomically because he's  afflicted with a severe clinical case of grandiosity.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/95084/#95119

4. Recognize the foundation of our democracy........the outcome of fair and proven elections when you lose. Trump is the most messed up politician in US history on this one. By itself, what he did and continues to do to the brains of tens of millions of far R cult followers that are convinced the 2020 election was stolen from him make him worthy of prison not president.

5. Politics today is extremely divisive and its killing our country. Trump takes the divisiveness to an extreme level that makes the other candidates look like MLK's. MLK professed love. Trump has generated more hatred than any person in US history. All a person needs to do to beat him in an election is..............run against him. They turn into NOT Donald Trump which is the most popular presidential candidate in the country. He caused numerous candidates to lose last November because they were backed by him or projected his fake election steal narrative.

6. Biden will lose to anybody running on the R ticket.....except one person. Trump. Biden must be defeated for our country to move forward to reverse some of the very damaging consequences of his presidency.

7. Extremely important. A candidate running for your party should always be able to unite that party. Trump has divided his own party more than any politician in my lifetime.

8. The one thing Trump has going for him is the cult of tens of millions of Rs that are completely blind to everything above and have fractured the R party. They are captivated by his BS and actually love all his lies because its exactly what they want to hear.  Because of this bamboozle power, many Rs in his own party are afraid to come out against him or else he will seek vengeance on them.

9. The Ds want more than anything for Trump to run in 2024. I can tell you with absolute certainty, that like 2020, if Trump runs again there will be another record or near record turnout of Ds and Independents voting again and for the exact same reason that the previous election smashed the previous record......... almost  all their votes will be for NOT Donald Trump.

10. People are sadly mistaken that, because he has clearly been unfairly targeted by the justice/intel and MSM communities to try to destroy him...........that supporting him is somehow fighting the establishment.

Think about how insane that really is.

If you want to identify all the unfair attacks  and defend Trump against the unfair attacks..........that's perfectly fine. I always do that.

But that doesn't  mean ignore all the off the charts REAL items mentioned above. Because he's being attacked by the enemy, in the minds of the far right, somehow qualifies a diabolical unqualified  person  to be president.

In other words, because this happened below, far right Rs think it means they will win and beat the evil attacking Trump,  if they elect Trump. Trump is a victory against all those bad entities.  Despite Trump doing even WORSE things than the ones he is being unfairly attacked for.

Mueller investigation corruption:

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/24146/#24224

The solution is to elect somebody qualified in your party that has character and great ideas and not fall into the current trap of supporting the 1 person the enemy knows is the most vulnerable in the general election.

Jean,

Again, I love and respect you to pieces and am grateful for all your wonderful, insightful, honest and sincere posts but this is one of those topics that we will just not agree on and sincere/honest comments that disagree with me are always very welcomed.
